Previews of Maguire vs Brecel and Williams vs Highfield.
Maguire and Williams head into these games as odds on favourites to make the quarter-finals. Brecel faces former world number 2 Stephen Maguire who has slipped down to 19th in the world rankings. It could be a tricky one for Maguire as he faces 21 year-old former European under-19 champion as he is rising throughout the snooker world quite quickly.
Birthday boy Liam Highfield hopes that he can get a present in the shape of a quarter-final place however it will be tough as the world number 99 faces the world number 16 Mark Williams where he will not be fancied by anyone.
Just as I say that Jamie Jones wins the game with Gilbert fouling on the green and he seals the game 6-2 in quite a one sided affair he will be heading to the quarter finals later on in the week.
16:45 Jones misses a shot at the pink to have a chance at sealing the game but I’d still be surprised if Gilbert went on to win this frame.
16:42 After a drab few minutes the game looked to be about to opne up but it seems like we are back to safety shot after safety shot. 50-15
16:32 Theres a bit of a tactical battle going on at the moment with both players exchanging the table
16:31 Jones goes for a long pot into the top left pocket but he misses giving the table back to David Gilbert.
16:29 Meanwhile on the other table Jamie Jones leads David Gilbert 5-2 and 41-8 in the 8th frame.
John Higgins books his place in the UK Championship quarter finals beating Mark Allen 6-3 in a game that was quite close until the final few frames where Higgins hit top form. Mark Allen crashes out but he will not be disappointed with his performance as he lead 3-2 at one point in a match that nobody was expecting him to win.
16:22 No mistakes from Higgins here as he drains ball after ball giving himself an 85-0 lead
16:20 Higgins back in control as he takes out a 2 reds a green and a blue. Score is now 47-0 should be all but over now.
16:19. What has he done here? Mark Allen goes for the exact same shot as Higgins and make sthe same mistake giving the table back to Higgins.
16:18 He tried to take on a difficult red into the side pocket and loses posession to Allen.
16:17 Higgins loses the cue ball and has a decision to make whether or not to play for safety or risk going for a huge shot. 29-0
16:15 Higgins gets the first points on the board in the 9th frame with a fantastic pot of the black where he broke pretty much all the reds up, while putting the black in at the same time. 21-0
16:11 Mark Allen fails to capitalise on his opportunity to level up the match, as he missies a shot at the black and conceeds the frame. Higgins now just 1 frame away from the quarter finals.
16:09 We Join the match with John Higgins 4-3 up in frames in a race to 6 in the last 16 match from the UK Championships live from York
